SEHCF is seeking a committed, qualified and proactive midwife who will help safeguard the continuity of midwifery care and contribute to its further development on the island.
This varied role combines direct patient care with strengthening local pregnancy, maternal and child health services. You will work independently in a small-scale, international healthcare setting where collaboration, professional responsibility and personal attention are central.
Your role
As a midwife, you will play a key role throughout the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care pathway. You will support pregnant women and their families during pregnancy, childbirth and the postnatal period. You will independently conduct antenatal consultations and risk assessments, lead and support deliveries, and provide appropriate education and follow-up care.
You will be part of SEHCF’s obstetrics and gynecology team. Within this multidisciplinary team, you will work closely with the gynecologist, tropical medicine physician and other healthcare professionals. Together, the team is responsible for delivering and further developing high-quality, safe and accessible maternal and child care on St. Eustatius.
When complications or increased risks arise, you will consult the gynecologist, tropical medicine physician or other relevant professionals in a timely manner. The role also includes developing preventive pregnancy care, structured education for expectant parents, health promotion and integrated care around mother and child.
Responsibilities

Conduct antenatal consultations, pregnancy assessments and risk screening.

Independently manage low-risk pregnancies and deliveries.

Identify medical, psychosocial and other pregnancy-related risks.

Consult or refer to the gynecologist, tropical medicine physician or other professionals when required.

Provide postnatal care and appropriate follow-up.

Educate and support pregnant women, partners and families, including organizing information and education sessions.

Promote preventive care and healthy lifestyles during pregnancy and motherhood.

Contribute to developing local pregnancy, maternal and child health services.

Strengthen collaboration with local and regional care partners, including healthcare organizations within the BES islands.

Contribute to protocols, quality policy, professional development and continuous improvement.

Work in accordance with SEHCF quality and safety standards.
Your profile
-
A completed Bachelor of Midwifery or an equivalent recognized professional qualification.

Valid Dutch BIG registration for professional practice in the Caribbean Netherlands.

Professional authorization and competence to provide midwifery care independently.

Good spoken and written command of English and Dutch; Spanish is an advantage.

Willingness to work flexibly within a 24/7 healthcare environment, resilience and a strong sense of responsibility.

Strong communication, organizational and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.

Willingness to collaborate with healthcare professionals and organizations across the BES islands.

St. Eustatius Health Care Foundation (SEHCF) is op zoek naar een betrokken, gekwalificeerde en proactieve verloskundige die helpt de continuïteit van de verloskundige zorg te waarborgen en bijdraagt aan de verdere ontwikkeling ervan op het eiland.
Deze veelzijdige functie combineert directe patiëntenzorg met het versterken van de lokale zorg rondom zwangerschap, moeder en kind. Je werkt zelfstandig in een kleinschalige, internationale zorgomgeving waar samenwerking, professionele verantwoordelijkheid en persoonlijke aandacht centraal staan.
Jouw functie
Als verloskundige vervul je een sleutelrol binnen het prenatale, natale en postnatale zorgtraject. Je ondersteunt en begeleidt zwangere vrouwen en hun gezinnen tijdens de zwangerschap, de bevalling en de kraamperiode. Je voert zelfstandig prenatale consulten en risicobeoordelingen uit, begeleidt bevallingen en biedt passende voorlichting en nazorg.
Je maakt deel uit van het obstetrie-gynaecologieteam van SEHCF. Binnen dit multidisciplinaire team werk je nauw samen met de gynaecoloog, de arts voor tropische geneeskunde en andere betrokken zorgprofessionals. Het team is gezamenlijk verantwoordelijk voor het bieden en verder ontwikkelen van kwalitatief hoogwaardige, veilige en toegankelijke moeder- en kindzorg op Sint-Eustatius.
Bij complicaties of verhoogde risico’s overleg je tijdig met de gynaecoloog, de arts voor tropische geneeskunde of andere relevante professionals. De functie omvat ook het ontwikkelen van preventieve zwangerschapszorg, gestructureerde voorlichting voor aanstaande ouders, gezondheidsbevordering en integrale zorg rondom moeder en kind.
Verantwoordelijkheden

Uitvoeren van prenatale consulten, zwangerschapscontroles en risicoscreening.

Zelfstandig begeleiden van zwangerschappen en bevallingen met een laag risico.

Signaleren van medische, psychosociale en andere zwangerschapsgerelateerde risico’s.

Tijdig consulteren van of verwijzen naar de gynaecoloog, de arts voor tropische geneeskunde of andere zorgprofessionals.

Verlenen van postnatale zorg en passende nazorg.
-
Geven van voorlichting en begeleiding aan zwangere vrouwen, partners en gezinnen, inclusief het organiseren van informatie- en voorlichtingsbijeenkomsten.

Bevorderen van preventieve zorg en een gezonde leefstijl rondom zwangerschap en het moederschap.

Bijdragen aan de ontwikkeling van lokale zorgdiensten op het gebied van zwangerschap, moeder- en kindzorg.

Versterken van samenwerking met lokale en regionale ketenpartners, waaronder zorgorganisaties binnen de BES-eilanden.

Bijdragen aan en/of opstellen van protocollen, kwaliteitsbeleid, deskundigheidsbevordering en continue verbetering.

Werken volgens de kwaliteits- en veiligheidsrichtlijnen van SEHCF.
Jouw profiel

Een afgeronde bacheloropleiding Verloskunde of een gelijkwaardige, erkende beroepsopleiding.

Geldige Nederlandse BIG-registratie voor beroepsuitoefening in Caribisch Nederland.

Professionele bevoegdheid en bekwaamheid om zelfstandig verloskundige zorg te verlenen.

Goede beheersing van het Engels en Nederlands in woord en geschrift; kennis van het Spaans is een pré.

Bereidheid tot flexibel werken in een 24/7-zorgomgeving, veerkracht en een sterk verantwoordelijkheidsgevoel.

Sterke communicatieve en organisatorische vaardigheden en vermogen tot multidisciplinaire samenwerking.
